Christmas Light Installation Costs in Kitchener (2026)

Planning ranges for holiday lighting in Kitchener in 2026, and why a Huron Park two-storey with six peaks costs more to light than a larger Stanley Park bungalow.

These are planning estimates, not prices. They show what holiday lighting commonly comes to on Kitchener houses so you can judge a quote. Your number is written after the installer has seen the house or clear photos of it, because the length of roofline, the number of peaks and the height decide most of the cost.

Planning ranges

  • Seasonal roofline, bungalow or side-split, lights supplied: typically $400–$900 for installation, January takedown and storage, depending on length and peaks.
  • Seasonal roofline, two-storey with several peaks, lights supplied: typically $800–$1,800. Steep Victoria Park gables and lift work push to the top and occasionally beyond.
  • Hanging your own lights: typically $250–$700 for the install, with takedown quoted alongside.
  • Tree wraps: typically $150–$600 per tree, depending on height, girth and whether the branches are wrapped or only the trunk.
  • Shrubs, walkways, wreaths and garland: typically $100–$400 added to a roofline install.
  • Takedown and storage alone: typically $150–$400 for takedown, plus $50–$150 a year for labelled storage.
  • Permanent lighting: typically $25–$45 per linear foot installed, including controller and power supply. A Kitchener front elevation of 80 to 150 feet commonly lands around $2,500–$6,000, the whole house more.
  • Commercial holiday lighting: typically $1,000–$6,000 for a storefront or small plaza, more for condo complexes and multi-building sites, quoted after a site visit.

What moves the price

  • Peaks and runs. Every separate gable is its own climb and its own start and end. A newer two-storey with several front peaks takes longer than a long straight eave.
  • Height. Above three metres the work is done with fall protection, and very tall brick gables may need a lift.
  • Power. Whether there is a GFCI-protected outdoor outlet where it is needed. If not, an electrician's visit comes first and is separate.
  • Trees. Trunk-only wraps are quick; full branch wraps on a mature maple are slow, careful work.
  • Supplied or owned lights. Supplied commercial-grade LED costs more in year one and saves you buying, storing and replacing strings.
  • Timing. Booking in October for November is easier to fit than a request in the second week of December, when the weather decides.

What a quote should say

Which runs are lit and with what product, whether lights are supplied or yours, whether takedown and storage are included, how service calls are handled, and, for permanent lighting, the length of track, the controller and the warranty terms.

Running cost

LED displays cost little to run. Electricity prices on most Kitchener bills are set by the Ontario Energy Board and delivered by Enova Power; a display's wattage is on its labels, and watts times hours divided by 1,000 gives the kWh to multiply by your plan's price.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my two-storey cost more than a bigger bungalow?

Height and peaks. A bungalow eave is reached from a short ladder all the way round. A two-storey with several front gables means more climbs, fall protection above three metres, and more starts and ends to wire.

Is it cheaper to supply my own lights?

In year one, usually. Over a few years supplied lights often come out close, because they are commercial grade, stored for you, and replaced when they fail.

Is permanent lighting worth it compared with seasonal?

If you would light the house every year anyway and like the idea of accent lighting the rest of the year, it often pays back within several seasons of seasonal install fees. If you only want lights some years, seasonal is the simpler choice.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Most houses are quoted from a short visit or photos of each side. A firm number for a house nobody has seen is a guess.

Is takedown included?

On most seasonal quotes, yes, along with storage. If it is not, the quote says so and lists the price.

Is HST included in the ranges?

No. Quotes show the price and HST separately, so the figures here are before tax.
